Abstract
Rice husk, an agricultural solid waste was used as sorbent for the removal of chromium(VI) from aqueous solution after modification with HCl. The results of the experiment showed that acid treatment of rice husk can improve the sorption efficiency considerably. Effects of pH, Contact time, initial Cr(VI) concentration, adsorbent dosage were studied. Removal of chromium ion was found as highly dependent on pH and initial concentration of Cr(VI) solution. Sorption isotherm investigation showed that equilibrium sorption data were better represented by Freundlich model than the Langmuir model. Our finding in this paper has indicated that very low cost abundant material of rice husk modified with HCl can be effectively used for removal of Cr(VI) ion from effluents such as textile waste waters.
