Improving UV Stabilization of wool Fabrics Using Nano TiO2 Esfandiar Pakdel1, Majid Montazer
Abstract Wool is the most important animal fiber used by textile industry but its photo-stability is very low. Scientists searched for new ways to increase the photo-stability of wool. Nano TiO2 particles have good features to make them suitable for new applications. One of them is UV-blocking power that was used for protection fabrics against UV-rays. Treating wool fabrics with TiO2 can be effective for controlling the photo- degradation. This study focused on protection of wool fabric against UV rays. In this research, oxidized and raw wool were treated with citric acid (CA) as cross-linking agent and different concentrations of TiO2. XRD patterns proved the existence of nano TiO2 particles on the wool surface. The whiteness and yellowness of samples treated with titanium dioxide were also discussed. The results showed that TiO2 was a suitable UV absorber and its effect depends on concentration.
