Application of aminoplast resins on pill formation of polyester/viscose knitted fabrics

Abstract

Viscose/polyester knitted fabrics have propensity to pilling and gives garment with spoil surface appearance. It is necessary to decrease or prevent pilling. In this research, viscose/polyester (35/65) knitted fabric made up
polyester filament and viscose staple yarns, treated with different blend of aminoplast resin to obtain a durable
anti-pilling fabric. The concentrations of resins were determined with central composite design (CCD) and then
different characteristics such as pilling rate, water absorption, air permeability, water vapor transmission, bending, tensile strength, whiteness and washing durability were examined. The results showed that the resin
treatment can reduce the pilling rate. Also, the amounts of different variables were optimized with response
surface methodology (RSM) and their statistical models were obtained.
